SAFETY & HANDLING
Safe handling starts before a cylinder arrives
Compressed-gas cylinders require suitable storage, compatible equipment and trained handling. Always follow the product safety data sheet and equipment manufacturer’s instructions.
Keep oxygen equipment free from oil and grease
Contamination can create a serious fire hazard. Keep hands, gloves, valves and fittings clean; never apply oil or grease to oxygen equipment.
Store securely
Secure cylinders against falling. Choose a well-ventilated storage area away from combustible materials and separate oxygen from flammable gases.
Move with care
Use a suitable cylinder trolley. Handle empty cylinders with the same care as full ones and return them to the supplier.
Use suitable equipment
Only trained, competent people should connect or use cylinders. Use the correct regulator and fittings for the gas and equipment. Do not use damaged hoses or equipment.
These introductory precautions are based on the UK Health and Safety Executive’s oxygen workplace safety guidance and motor vehicle repair safety guidance.

These are general safety guides, not product-specific Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Obtain the SDS for the gas, grade or mixture supplied and use it alongside your workplace risk assessment and equipment instructions. Apply relevant Nigerian requirements; UK and European legal references describe their own jurisdictions.

Before delivery or collection
Ask for the safety data sheet for your specific product and confirm your site’s storage and handling arrangements with a competent person.
Practical handling guidelines
- Keep cylinders secured against falling and move them with a purpose-built cylinder trolley.
- Store oxygen in a well-ventilated area, away from combustible materials and separate from flammable gases.
- Keep oxygen valves, fittings, hands and gloves free from oil and grease.
- Use equipment approved for the gas and operating pressure; have trained personnel check its condition before use.
- Prohibit smoking where oxygen is used and keep emergency escape routes clear.
- Close cylinder valves when work stops, following the equipment manufacturer’s shutdown instructions.
Medical oxygen
For medical applications, confirm the appropriate product specification and follow the healthcare provider’s instructions. This website does not provide treatment or dosing guidance.
If something appears unsafe
Stop using the equipment and keep people away from the affected area. Follow your site’s emergency procedures and seek assistance from trained personnel. For a fire or immediate danger, contact the local emergency services.
